Clearway Pets Salisbury
I thought it would be a good use of my blog to feature various local pet resources including some pet shops and vets. For this particular article I want to talk about Clearway Pets Salisbury. As pet owners we have a number of pet shops to pick from, everything from very small independents to the large chain stores on retail parks that are common up and down the country. So what sort of pet shop is Clearway Pets and what does it have to offer?
Store History
The owners of Clearway Pets are Mike and Emily Adamson, a young couple from Salisbury who both have previous pet shop experience. I believe they first opened the Salisbury store in 2021 and it doubled in size in 2023 when they also occupied a shop next door. They also have a smaller branch in Stockbridge but I’m not sure when that branch first opened.
Clearway Pets Salisbury Opening Hours & Address
For busy working people a shop’s opening hours might influence whether they decide to give them their custom. If they are not able to visit in working hours they are likely to look for extended opening hours in the week or at least shops that are open at the weekend. Clearway Pets don’t tend to open later in the evening but they are at least open at the weekend which makes them a viable option for most people. Their listed opening hours are as follows:
- Monday 9am-5pm
- Tuesday 9am-5pm
- Wednesday 9am-5pm
- Thursday 9am-5pm
- Friday 9am-5pm
- Saturday 9am-5pm
- Sunday 10am-4pm
For those who are not familiar with Clearway Pets it’s the only pet shop in the heart of Salisbury town centre. The address is:
Clearway Pets
Cross Keys Shopping Centre
4 Winchester St
Salisbury SP1 1HB
This might make it a convenient option for those who regularly visit the town centre to do the rest of their shopping. In terms of the size of the Salisbury branch, they are larger than the smallest independent pet shops but smaller than one of the huge out-of-town superstores. I believe the branch doubled in size in 2023 when they expanded into the shop next door. I believe they first opened in 2021 and they proudly claim they are the only indepedent pet shop in Salisbury.
Being in the heart of a busy city centre does mean that you are unlikely to find free parking unlike the huge retail parks but it’s still a good option for those who visit the town centre for shopping, dining or meeting friends.
Clearway Pets Reviews
Having looked at their reviews on Google it seems that Clearway Pets is one of the highest rated pet shops in Salisbury. I noticed that a large number of the reviews focused on two aspects in particular, the range or brands stocked and the knowledge and helpfulness of the staff. Only one review mentioned that they were more expensive than Pets At Home but I don’t know if this is true on all products where you can make a direct comparison. A huge chain like Pets At Home will have greater buying power than an independent which will mean they are able drive a harder bargain with suppliers on pricing which they may partially pass on to the customer. The situation is even worse now that almost anything can be purchased online, including pet products. The fact that Clearway Pets has such a good review score and seems to be expanding shows that they must be doing something write in what is a brutal time for high street retailers.
I also noticed that Clearway Pets had only replied to a handful of the reviews they have received. Usually this happens because the person responsible for looking after their Google page and online marketing in general is too busy with other things. It’s always considered good practice however to reply to all reviews, both positive and negative.
Clearway Kennels
As well as the two branches of pet shops I noticed that they also have a dog kennel establishment called Clearway Kennels. Not every dog does well in a kennels, some respond better to a home from home environment. However for those who like to use a kennels it’s good to see that they have a 5 star rating from Wiltshire Council. It seems the kennels was the original business for Mike and Emily as it seems to have been open more years than the pet shops.
The Google reviews seem mostly very good which will give customers peace of mind but again not many were replied to. The kennel website seems to have been built on GoDaddy hosting and I found the website less attractive than the Shopify design they have picked for their pet shops. The grey background colour in particular was too dark in my opinion. I also couldn’t see any images of the actual kennels where dogs would sleep so you would probably need to visit the establishment at an agreed time before deciding if you wanted your pet to stay.
Summary
It’s always good to see new retail businesses doing well in a tough economic climate. Clearway Pets seem to be meeting the needs of pet owners in Salisbury and it will be interesting to see how they progress.
